The Concert Experience
The live [interplay] experience is a new music travelogue that draws inspiration from Anthony Bourdain, Alton Brown, and Globe Trekker. Each program features works from various regions combined with narration and video that allows the audience to observe and experience cultural practices that influence contemporary composition.
The program available for Spring 2014 includes music and video from Brazil, Singapore, Croatia, and the US.
One of the great privileges of music is the opportunity to premiere new works and interact with living composers. Too often, however, pieces are premiered and then neglected for the next new thing.
[interplay] serves two great purposes—to champion previously premiered works that deserve repeated performances and wider audiences, and to lend voice and extended life to pieces that haven’t been heard outside of a particular region or nation.
While no two [interplay] pieces will be exactly alike, the majority of included works will:
- be under 15 minutes in length.
- be for solo piano, but can include extended techniques, vocalizations, etc.
- have received at least one public performance.
- have not received significant international or
- have been written within the last 15 years.
- represent an element of its originating culture or region.
- be available for sharing with audience members, and networked artists to encourage further performances.
[interplay] performances combine works from 3-4 regions or countries, including the US, and feature interactive elements to contextualize and entertain. On-stage remarks and short video clips interspersed throughout the program help audiences to learn more about the diverse cultures represented, their impact on music, and provide opportunities for musicians and audiophiles to acquire new scores and recordings for their own libraries. A projector and screen, along with speakers for audio playback, are required in addition to the piano.
Adam is seeking new works for inclusion in [interplay] concerts. Further information about his travel schedule will be made available on this page if you are interested in participating.
If you feel that you can represent your nation and forge multiple connections with other artists in the area, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org about the possibility of visiting your region.
